Get To Know Me
Hey! I’m Louise and welcome to my blog. I really appreciate you taking the time to check this page out.
My travel journey has been full of surprises and I’m still figuring out which direction I want to take. So, I wanted to make this blog to show that it is completely normal to not have a 10 year plan or know what career you want to choose because quite frankly, not knowing what I want to do has lead me on some pretty cool adventures and this is where it all began.
I finished college in 2022 with absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my Sports Science qualification. So like many, I decided I wanted to go backpacking. My boyfriend and I packed our bags, said our goodbyes and got on a flight to Phuket.
We spent an unforgettable month travelling around the south of Thailand, budgeting to the absolute max unsure of how far our savings would get us. It was such a pivotal moment for us being two naïve 18 year olds just figuring it out as we went along. After Phuket, we then flew to Bali where we would spend the next 2 months exploring every inch of the island. From the untouched areas up north in Lovina to the trendy, heaving towns of Canggu and Ubud, we loved this portion of our trip since we were finally settling in to the backpacking lifestyle despite the frequent waves of homesickness. Our final month of our trip was spent in a Torquay, a coastal town just south of Melbourne visiting family. We got a little taste of the Aussie lifestyle and could definitely see ourselves living here but ultimately knew our lives were back in the UK and this was always going to be just a short backpacking trip.
The next year was an absolute rollercoaster for me. I was just working a hospitality job with no real aspirations or ideas on what I wanted to do for a career. I knew I wanted to travel again but deep down thought that maybe that was because I wanted to run away from my ‘real life’ because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. My head was all over the place; some of my friends were working their 9-5’s, others were at university and some were ready to settle down. In all honesty, I was just feeling a bit lost. So at the end of 2023, I told my boyfriend that I just needed to go somewhere, anywhere. That restless feeling to explore again was coming back and it wasn’t going away anytime soon.
December 2023 we booked a 9 month trip to New Zealand (might as well go to the furthest point away right!) and in January 2024 we left for Auckland having done no research or planning on where we would go. Within a month of being here and after meeting so many other backpackers along our way, we realised we’re actually not the only people who feel a bit lost in life and this is actually quite normal. So much to our parent’s dislike, we cancelled our return flight and officially became full-time travellers!
I can’t even put that year into words because it was the most incredible year of my life. I met so many beautiful people, hiked up the most spectacular mountains I’ve ever seen and learnt so much about myself. After our 1 year working holiday visa ended, we weren’t ready to return home but also felt like we had seen all the best parts of New Zealand so applied for a working holiday visa in Australia.
Moving to Perth was one of the scariest yet exciting moments of my life. I thought I could just copy and paste my life from New Zealand over to Australia and it would all work out. However, finding a job and feeling settled took longer and was harder than expected. But soon enough we started to have breakthroughs with work and formed the best group of friends I could’ve asked for all whilst managing to fit in a few road trips here and there to escape the city life for a bit.
It’s been a journey that’s for sure but I feel so lucky to be experiencing it all with my favourite person. My aim for this blog is to share my adventures, thoughts, recommendations and everything in between, so stick around and let me know what you think if you’ve got this far!
